  1. I want that little time machine model from the beginning. The first half of the movie was really good I thought. I loved the sets and the dialogue between the men in the beginning. Not enough movies have that kind of scene anymore. The actual time travel bit with the store front changing was amazing and I'm glad it was kept in the later remake. I did not like the dumb blonde role. I also didn't like how the civilization at the end had words for concepts they didn't understand such as Work, Government, Machines... I also think the Morlocks were portrayed as really dumb creatures instead of the superior race which build and maintain industry underground. Probably not the fault of the script writer but H.G. Wells, but I don't think a man that can build a time machine would fall in love so fast with an uneducated girl like Weena. I think he should have stopped the machine a little earlier and found the advanced civilization before it collapsed.

And to answer the question left open at the end, which 3 books would I take to restart civilization? Agriculture 101, Chemistry 101, Physics 101. And perhaps I would stop in the 21st century and pick up an e reader.

6.5/10 Might watch with kids one day.

  2. Overall, this movie was different than I expected. I love the set up of the story, where all the men are gathered together and talking about the different dimensions. I didn't like that the main character could move around while traveling through time, but I did think the time machine itself was very cool.

There were a lot of practical effects that were used that I enjoyed. I was disappointed in what H.G. Wells thought the future would be, where the world was under stone for such a long time. The movie seemed a little disjointed in that the second part of the film had a different tone than the first part.

Overall, I did enjoy the first part of the story. I was let down by the vision of the future this story portrayed. I rate this 6/10.

The three books I would take to restart civilization: Grey's Anatomy, Farming For Dummies and Grimm's Fairy tales.
