  1. I have never read the book all the way through, so I am not reviewing based off the adaptation but as a science fiction film alone.

This was maybe my fourth time attempting to watch this movie. In the past I got bored and stopped watching at about a third through the movie. The main character is really boring and the plot is slow. I understand that the idea is that society believes sameness will make people happy, so it's reasonable to assume the main character would be the same boring person as everyone else, but this is not the case. In my opinion, the fire chief was the most interesting character simply because he had some. He was also surprisingly Learned for a man who shuns reading. The female protagonist was a pretty good character and I really did enjoy her personality. Her influence on the main protagonist is what made him start reading and start to develop character, but I wish he wasn't such a blank slate beforehand.

The end was a bit disappointing and unrealistic I think. The idea of having a living library where all the members commit to memorizing one book of their choice feels like a really inefficient/unreliable way of record keeping. It looked as though they had a total of maybe sixty people walking around memorizing books. Constantly walking around and reciting so they would not forget. This doesn't sound like a great existence or a redemption from sameness. Given the option I would still choose to live in the dystopic world where firemen burn books then standing in the cold reciting words from the same book for the rest of my life. Do they even listen to others tell stories? They were out in the woods successfully hiding themselves from society. So wouldn't it just make more sense to hide libraries and spread awareness.

This movie wasn't incredibly pretty, nor did the story do a great job at keeping my interest.

    3/10 will not watch again.

I have heard the book was quite dissimilar to the movie so I may need to try and read it.
